The recent development video linked below shows some of the progress that has been made on developing Unsung Heroes 1898. New sound effects, unit models, and unit animations were some of the major additions to the game. In addition, the game now features a “strategy picker” at the start of each battle. This gives players the added control over what commands AI troops will give and follow. Not only will there be multiple strategies to select for each battle, but these strategies are completely modifiable. The strategies are written in an XML file, which allows it to be opened in any text editor and is easy to read and edit. Though not on the Early Access release, Unsung Heroes 1898 will feature mod support allowing for users to create maps and strategies for said maps. This method of creating and loading strategies allows modders and users to quickly and easily create whatever kind of strategy they want to create.
This sprint nearly finishes the vertical slice for the game (a vertical slice is one complete level that can be used as a template to create the rest of the game). There are a few small fixes that will need to be added before the vertical slice is complete. This includes more sound effects, some minor UI changes, and various bug fixes. The San Juan map will also be modified to have more vegetation, more places to take cover, updated building models, and more points of interest. Once the vertical slice is completed, two additional maps and a menu system will be created.
There are some major changes planned for this site that still have not been achieved. Unfortunately time restrictions limited development solely for the game as opposed to the website. Hopefully, during the next month, this will change. You can read about some of the changes planned in the previous news post. Until then, you can watch the development video listed below and follow Venomic Games on all of our social media platforms for the latest news on Unsung Heroes 1898.
