Las Guasimas, Guantanamo Bay, and the Museum

After another few months of laborious development, another game development video on Unsung Heroes 1898 is out. Since there are not many individuals who read these blog posts and there is not much time to write out a full post, this will be kept short.

This sprint focused on upgrading the preexisting San Juan and Kettle Hill map as well as adding two additional maps: Las Guasimas and Guantanamo Bay. Both maps are much smaller than the San Juan map and have unique characteristics. These maps were designed to be as accurate as the real locations were, while also still providing challenging gameplay elements.

In addition, the game now features a museum mode. This mode allows players to view various aspects of the Spanish American War, including the people involved, battles fought, and weapons used. There is also a section that adds further information on the development of the game. This mode is not finished and will be expanded upon during Early Access release.

Early Access release will be part of the next development sprint. Initially the game will be available for free on Itch.io under the “pay what you want” model. During this time, the game will receive feedback needed to fix certain issues and to make certain improvements. Once a good foundation for the game has been made, the game’s development will be transitioned to Steam and be given a set price tag. The game will spend the rest of Early Access development there. A full roadmap will be revealed within the coming weeks.

The development video below covers the majority of the new content added to the game. Don’t forget to follow Venomic Games on all social media platforms for the latest news on Unsung Heroes 1898.
